José Yimer was assassinated on January 10, 2017. He was the vicepresident of the Peasant Association for the Development of Alto Sinú ASODECAS and a member of the human rights commission of the Marcha Patriotica movement since 2012. He promoted and taught about the substitution of illicit crops in the region. ASODECAS originated from the need to claim for the rights to health, education and in general to a dignified life, for the peasant communities in Tierralta, Cordoba; After the signing of the peace agreement, the organization focused its work, together with the Coordinator of Coca, Poppy and Marijuana Growing Organizations (COCCAM) on projects to replace crops for illicit use, as part of the point #4 of the peace agreement, generating the promotion, organization and education about the replacement process.
"José Yimer was a young man who was very awake and in love with his territory, who fought tirelessly for the rights of his community. It was with his work in the substitution that the situation became more complex for him."
