Magdalena was murdered on September 2, 2019. She was an indigenous leader and healer of the Makaguán people, belonging to the Macarieros community in the municipality of Tame, Arauca. She always stood out for her fight for the rights of the indigenous communities in the area and for promoting respect for ethnic traditions. Magdalena was a very important and beloved woman in her community, thanks to her extensive historical and cultural knowledge of the Macarieros traditions. She was considered one of the outstanding women within indigenous movements such as Ascatidar and the Alternative Indigenous and Social Movement. Her body was found near her place of residence with a stab wound. There is no information on previous threats.
